Cuisinart CPK-17 vs JK-17 The kettle lifts from its base, eliminating the need for a cord. Because the bottom remains cool, it may be placed on any surface without burning. The chord, on the other hand, is found near the bottom of the scale. It's roughly a quarter inch thick and as broad as a kettle.
It's not as loud as some of the others I've heard or used. It quickly warms the water to the required temperature while also reducing noise. The noise is quiet at first, but as the water warms up, it becomes more audible. I just filled it halfway with cold filtered water, and it took about 5 minutes to reach 200 degrees, with only about 3 minutes of "noise," but I was still able to chat on the phone from a few feet away.
There seem to be two possibilities... One is a white plastic cover that looks to disguise an inside screw that attaches the bottom of the handle, and the other is a covering around the filter that prevents water from spilling outside - the same design I found in my Hamilton Beach from Costco. It's still a'minimal impact' issue, in my opinion (or marginal)... Keep in mind that when some plastics come into contact with water, they have no "carcinogenic effect"... I'm guessing there's some kind of silicon down there, but I can't reach it. The top one, which is above the filter and rests in the nozzle, is fairly thin. I wouldn't be worried about them at this degree of exposure. (If you're considering cancer.) I'm certain it'll be fine in terms of durability - at the very least (.01 percent??).
